Courses and coaching
We pride ourselves on the quality of our coaching, creating a supportive environment and focusing on the aspirations and needs of each paddler.

Whether you want to relax exploring sheltered bays on calm days, play in the tide races or somewhere in between, we can support you to develop the techniques, tactics and confidence to get the most out of your days on the water. Our coaches are experienced, qualified, patient and love sharing all that sea kayaking has to offer.

The area around Oban has some of the best waters for coaching, ranging from sheltered lochs to exposed coastlines and strong tidal currents. This means we can cater to all abilities and find stretch and challenge where we need.

All our courses can be combined with day trips and expeditions for the chance put what you learn into practice on a journey!
Our courses
Every course we offer is uniquely tailored to the group, using individualised coaching to support each paddler to learn and develop their skills. Depending on your level and your aspirations we can offer the following course as well as create an offer just for you:

For beginners we can offer:
-
Discover Sea Kayaking - Take your first steps in the world of sea kayaking and learn the foundations of paddling. We find that two to four days work well as a length of course for this level.

Once you've had a few days on the water and want to learn more we suggest:
-
Building Confidence - Build the foundations of paddling, explore more challenging conditions and develop confidence in your abilities. Two or three days works well at this level.

Once you are familiar with the foundations of sea kayaking and want to develop skills in specific areas we suggest:
-
Forward Paddling - Learn the techniques for effective and efficient paddling. This works well as a single day, or built into other courses or an expedition.

-
Introduction to Tidal Paddling - Learn the techniques and tactics to successfully paddle in tidal flows. This works well as a two to four day course.

-
Rescues and Incident Management - Learn rescue techniques and how to problem solve on the sea. This could be as a one or two day course.

Once you're ready to really challenge your paddling in dynamic environments we can offer courses in the following:
-
Tide Race Paddling - Learn how to cope, thrive and play in tide races. This works well as a two or three day course.

-
Paddling the Falls of Lora - One of our favourite places to paddle is the awe-inspiring Falls of Lora, and we love introducing other paddlers to this spot. This works well as a two day course or can be a single day to get a taste of 'the Falls'!

We are running some Tiderace Skills/Falls of Lora courses in 2025, and the dates can be found on our 2025 dates page.

Whatever your level, we can tailor a course to suit you and your aspirations!
